Wet the Beak: College Football Semifinal

The Cotton Bowl: Clemson (13-0) vs Notre Dame (12-0)

Spread: Clemson -12.5.

Over/Under: 56.5 points.

I’m taking Notre Dame to cover the 12.5 points, while fully acknowledging that Clemson could run away with this game. I just don’t think that’s what going to happen. What I think is that Notre Dame is the best team that Clemson has played all year. I think the Irish are going to threaten to win this game and ultimately come up short. Dabo doesn’t care about winning by 12.5 points he wants to win by 1. If Clemson does blow the doors off the Irish it will be because the Clemson D is causing turnovers and converting them into points but I think if Brian Kelly’s team can play mistake free they hang around until the bitter end.

I’m staying away from the total but I want to lean towards the under, what worries me is that these bowl games seem to go on forever and that can make rooting for an under a headache that you don’t need.

Final Prediction Clemson wins 27-24.

The Orange Bowl: Alabama (13-0) vs Oklahoma (12-1)

Spread: Alabama -14.

Over/Under: 78 points.

I think Alabama is probably a lock to score 50 points. So if the Best Offense in the History of College Football can score 30 points then you get to the over. So lets start by saying I REALLY like this overplay. The point spread seems to be right about where it should be. Again I think what you’re betting on is how many points can OU put on Bama? Even if Tua is hurt I think the Tide are going to score. Jaylen Hurts could put up 50 on this OU defense. So what can Kyler Murray do? I think he’s going to put up numbers because he’s got the best offensive line in football and they can protect him. I like Alabama to win this game by 10. If you’re paying attention that’s an OU cover.

Final Prediction: Bama wins 52-42.

Bonus New Years Eve Wet the Beak:

Sun Bowl (Stanford -4.5 vs Pitt)

The one thing that worries me is that the spread opened at -6 and now is at -4. I don’t really get why people like Pitt so much that the line moved two points? Is it because Bryce Love isn’t playing? I don’t think that matters if you watch Stanford they like to throw it now. I am playing the Cardinal to cover and I will be very shocked if they don’t. They beat a Mitch Trubisky led UNC team in the Sun Bowl two years ago, and that UNC team was much better than this Pitt team.
